Process Intensification of Liquid Liquid Systems

Process Intensification methodologies applied to Liquid-Liquid Systems in structured equipment (PILLS) is a new €5.5 million collaborative R&D project funded under the European Commission’s Seventh Framework Programme.

Launched in January 2009, PILLS is a three year collaborative project involving 10 industrial and academic project partners from across the European Union.

The technical focus of the project will involve the development of new methodologies and the next generation of technology for liquid-liquid reaction systems widely used in chemical manufacturing.

Key project activity will include:
• Micro and meso scale equipment
• Exemplification in commodity and specialty chemicals
• Construction of an Experimental Research Facility and a Multipurpose Plant
• Improved fundamental understanding of processes and design requirements
• Improved sustainability of chemical processes
• Mid-term and end of project dissemination events

The research leading to these results has received funding from the European Community's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) under grant agreement n° NMP2-SL-2008-214599
